Airway Management in an Infant With Huge Hydrocephalus
نویسنده
چکیده
www.aana.com/aanajournalonline Huge hydrocephalus is defined as a head circumference larger than the length of the child. We discuss the perioperative anesthetic management of a case of huge hydrocephalus during ventriculoperitoneal shunt placement, focusing primarily on the airway management. The patient was a 4-month-old with a midline supratentorial lesion causing obstructive hydrocephalus due to compression of the sylvian aqueduct. For optimum positioning for direct laryngoscopy, a pillow was placed below the baby’s torso, to achieve a slight extension at the atlantoaxial joint. This maneuver decreased the angle between the line of vision and the laryngeal axis (calculated from the images), which effectively improved alignment.

Case Report of an open Neck Procedure Complication Associated with Laryngeal Mask Airway Use
Introduction: The laryngeal mask airway (LMA) is a safe method to establish airway control during general anaesthesia. In otolaryngology surgery, the use of a LMA is well established in ear surgery; however, the use of a LMA during open neck procedures remains controversial. We report a case in which the pharyngeal distortion by the LMA cuff resulted in an iatrogenic complication. Case Report...

Congenital granular cell tumor (GCT) is a relatively rare intraoral benign tumor, approximately 200 cases of which have been reported in the neonatal period worldwide. The newborn infant may have feeding problems and respiratory difficulties due to airway obstruction. This lesion may be diagnosed by prenatal ultrasonography and simple resection is mostly required. We report a case of an adult t...

OBJECT Posthemorrhagic hydrocephalus (PHH) in the preterm infant remains a major neurological complication of prematurity. The authors first described insertion of a specially designed low-profile subcutaneous ventricular catheter reservoir for temporary management of hydrocephalus in 1983. This report presents the follow-up experience with the surgical management of PHH in this population and ...
